What is Therapeutic Massage? Therapeutic massage involves the manipulation of the soft tissue structures of the body to prevent and alleviate pain, discomfort, muscle spasm, and stress; and, to promote health and wellness. It comes in many forms, including:
Swedish -- a gentle relaxing massage using long strokes, kneading and friction techniques Lomi Lomi -- a Hawaiian rhythmic massage predominantly using the soft part of the forearm Reflexology -- massage based around a system of points in the hands and feet thought to correspond, or "reflex," to all areas of the body Hot Stone Massage -- a powerful combination of pressure, heat, and coolness using warm stones and oil Deep Tissue -- releases chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure Sports massage -- focuses on muscle groups relevant to the particular sport Treatment -- differs from relaxation massage in the amount of verbal exchange between therapist & client and focuses on soft tissues of the body causing pain and/or dysfunction On-site Massage (also known as seated massage) - is administered while the client is clothed and seated in a specially designed chair.
